Our Mission Statement

We’ve created the Phoebe Fund to encourage Christadelphians to explore the concept of mutuality in our churches.

We believe the Bible, carefully translated and objectively interpreted, calls for ecclesial service, duties and leadership to be shared, regardless of gender and according to each one’s God-given gifts. We aim to provide you with tools to help create an egalitarian environment. Patriarchy, or male dominance, is not a Biblical ideal but the result of sin introduced in the Garden of Eden.

Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

(Romans 14:10 NRSV)

Who We Are

We are a 501(C)3 non-profit organization based in the United States. Any contributions to us may be tax-deductible (contact us for more details). We are members in good standing of Christadelphian ecclesias, and invite any sisters and brothers who agree with our mission to join with us.

What We Do

We’ll distribute funds worldwide to promote the education of sisters and brothers on this subject. Our efforts may include, but are not limited to, seminars, symposiums, scholarships, discussion groups, book publishing, sales and reviews. Please submit your grant requests for projects you would like us to sponsor and join us in this unique opportunity to bring about an inclusive culture in our worship and service to God.

There is no longer Jew or Greek; there is no longer slave or free; there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

(Galatians 3:28 NRSV)

Who Was Phoebe?

The Apostle Paul entrusted his letter to the Romans to Phoebe.

Not only did she transport it, she read and interpreted it, a duty taken on by letter carriers in the first century. Phoebe was a Deacon, held the church in her home in Cenchreae and was a financial patron to Paul. She served as an equal partner of the Apostle.

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church at Cenchreae, so that you may welcome her in the Lord, as is fitting for the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a benefactor of many and of myself as well.

(Romans 16:1-2 NRSV)
